Pentagram Design
A 300-page coffee table book, Reaching for the Sky documents every step involved in building the waterfront landmark of Singapore, Marina Bay Sands. The extensive archive of the project was thoroughly documented with visuals and writings from urban planners, architects, engineers, and landscape designers who collaborated on the project, providing a detailed account of the rigorous processes and behind-the-scenes struggles in realizing the building.
The cover features the iconic façade of the building with the infinity pool at the top, and the interior pages are carefully curated and laid out in a four-column grid with a hairline divider that provides a vertical force throughout the pages, resonating with the building’s design. The publication also includes a series of gatefolds featuring architectural drawings from Moshe Safdie, printed in silver, as well as his preliminary sketches.
