Letrillas is a revival inspired by the book Romances y Letrillas by Luis de Góngora, originally published in 1939 by Editorial Losada in Buenos Aires. Rooted in its letterpressed origins, Letrillas preserves the original’s endearing quirks and authentic charm while introducing careful refinements for greater cohesion and consistency in a modern context.
Throughout the design process, every letter was crafted with respect for its historical character, ensuring the spirit of the original remained intact. The result is a typeface that bridges the past and present, carrying its source’s warmth and human touch while offering the precision and clarity needed for contemporary applications.
Letrillas has been thoughtfully expanded to include an extensive character set, supporting Central European languages, diacritics, symbols, numerals, and more. Designed as a versatile text type, it provides a comfortable and legible reading experience, making it ideal for extended passages of text.
This project is an ongoing journey. Plans are underway to extend Letrillas into a full type family, with the addition of italics and multiple weights.
